Santa Cruz has been manufacturing custom shaped skateboard decks since 1973 and still offers a wide range of Egg or Football shaped skate decks. The Egg, or Football Shape (named after the egg shape of American football), originated in the early 1990s, a time when skateboarding was shifting significantly from ramps to the streets of the world. Egg shapes are characterized by elliptical side edges and a more pointed nose and tail.
